You can tell it's homemade if you look at the part that I totally messed up when I was doing the lining right by the zipper in the back. Good thing it's just the lining and it's not visible from the outside at all.
I was pretty pumped that this turned out! I wanted it to look like it wasn't handmade because I always think that's the litmus test to determine if something is well-made. If no one can tell it's homemade, then I did a good job on it.
So far, I've made 2 dresses that are done decently enough so that I don't think they are obviously handmade. I'm moving on to a suit jacket next. We'll see if I can make that turn out...that seems much harder. Because it has sleeves...
Holy crapballs!! That looks amazing!! And you just did that with a sewing machine!?!? Did you have a pattern? I might need you to teach me how to do this. I can't imagine it is super expensive to make your own dresses/suits when you think about the cost of buying them from a store...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Taryn! I did make it with just a regular sewing machine. I definitely had a pattern! I can follow instructions, but I can't just make it up, so I always need a pattern! This one was relatively easy since it's basically 4 panels sewn together. I cab totally show you how! And it is WAY cheaper to make suits instead of buy them. There are always sales on patterns, so you can, get one for like $2.50 and they usually include like the jacket, a skirt or dress, and pants. So multiple pieces in one pattern, which is nice. Fabric got suits is usually like $10/yard for the dressier stuff and most patterns need like 3-4 yards, so about $30-$40 for fabric. Add in another $10 or $15 for thread, zippers, buttons, etc. and you can have a suit for like $42.50-$57.50. Which is WAY cheaper than buying one! Plus, you can make it exactly how you want since you control fabric choice, cut, fit, details like buttons, etc. It does take some time but it's awesome when it's done!
